You stand deadly still in the center of the arena as you wait for your oponnent to join you. The crowd are cheering your name. It doesn't sound like they love you though, they just hate the scum you're facing. Your oponnent enters the ring and the crowd boo's loudly. A group of people start yelling "Kill him," and soon the whole arena fills with a murder chant. Your oponnent reacts by hissing and spitting in every direction. The referree brings you together and the [[fight begins.]]

He runs at you baring his teeth. He's faster than you expected. Boom! He catches you with a jab to the eye knocking you off balence. [[Strike back]] [[Step to the side and regain balence]]

You drive an elbow into his temple and his body goes limp. And cold. Sitting on his stomach, you can feel his blood pressure drop and his heart weaken. The arena goes deathly silent. The referree comes over and you slowly stand up. The room can sense what you know in your heart. [[You killed him.]]

You drive your forhead through his nose. It cracks loudly and you feel the sensation of bone penetrating something soft. Your opponent starts spasming uncontrolably, his eyes roll back into his jerking head. The referee pushes you off him and looks helplessly as the spasms begin to slow. [[You killed him.]]

You don't feel any remorse. You reserve that only for men of honour and charecter and this was a man of none. You feel the same as you did when you had to shoot the sick and rabid dog that roamed the strrets of Amsterdam many years ago. [[You put him out of his misery.| fight 2b]]

The arena is deathly silent. Two men enter the ring to carry the dead body away. You get ready to leave when a loud voice fills the arena. [["You destroyed my property."]]

"I owe you nothing." You reply. A fierceness enters your usually calm demeaner. The laws of the ring are clear, if you die during a fight, it's on you. "I paid 50 gold coins for that fighter Mr. Reiker," and you will repay me. A moment of realization hits you immeditately. This was his plan all along. Barrabbas never intended not to fight me tonight. But Shakler wasn't confident he could beat me straight up. "You're a sly and deceitful man, Baron Shakler. You weren't confident that your slave could beat me so you sent two after me in the same night. I will give you a counter offer, and you have 3 seconds to accept it. I'll fight again, but only if we wager 1,000 gold coins." Shakler's smug face distorts to a scowl. "You insolent little bitch." "Three." You ignore him, raising 3 fingers in the air so that everyone can see them. "You think you can..." You interrupt him, "Two." "...wait." You drop one finger. [["One."]]

"You're a deceitful man, Baron Shakler." "What the devil do you mean?" he asked a little flustered. "Lying about Barrabbas not being able to fight tonight so that I would fight your two best warriors in one night. Your cowardly tricks are despicable. Next time I come here, I will deal with you." You point a finger at Barrabbas. "...Wait," says Shakler unable to deny these claims with a straight face. [["Let me make you an offer."]]

"I accept." He calls out. "The loser of this match pays the winner 1,000 gold coins." "Good." You call back. [[But you're bluffing.]]

When Shakler has sat down and made himself comfortable he raises a hand. Barrabbas walks towards you. A corner of the arena lights up and an important looking man in a suit stands beside what looks like a giant. That must be Barrabbas. And his owner, [[Baron Shakler.]]

You hang your head, "I will bring it to you by sunset tommorrow." You don't have the money. You'll have to ask Van Helheim for it. "I'm afraid I can't accept that offer, Reiker. You see you only came to this town a few days ago. If I let you leave this arena you'll turn tail and run away into the night, theiving my 50 gold coins that you owe me. No I can't accept that offer. You must pay me right now." [[accept his abuse]] [[he's gone too far]]

Every word that escapes his mouth cuts your honour into a thousand pieces. Yet for some reason you chose not to defend yourself. You leave your charecter open for raping and Shakler obliges. "I don't have the money." The spirit of Van Reiker has been usurped by a weaker spirit. Yours. Shakler grins. "Then I shall have the rights to your freedom. You will become my slave for life to repay the debt of 50 gold coins that you owe me." [[You nod weakly]]

Your stories ends here. This is the reason that Erik Van Reiker never entered the history books. At the age of 25 a weak willed millenial from the 21st century made a deal with the devil and travelled through time and space to possess his body. After Erik became Shakler's property, his stregth and vitality slowly left him. You got to live 96 days in the body of a defeated man and watch as a hero lost his life to depression. At the end of your 100 day journey, your soul returned to your bedroom and the Body of Erik Van Reiker collapsed.

You feel a small victory for getting him to raise his offer. Then you rememeber one crucial detail. [[You don't have the money|But you're bluffing.]]

He pins you against the ropes and then brings you to the ground with a leg sweep. He could have ended the fight right there with a blow to your head. He's [[playing with you.]]

You dance to the centre of the ring hoping that he'll take his time following. [[He doesn't.]]

You step away from your opponent hoping that by keeping your distance and dodging punches you'll tire him out. He doesn't take the bait. As soon as he notices you retreating he [[charges at you|and charges.]]

On his first day he pinned Erik against a wall, with half a hundred students watching and told him, "I'm the big man here. If you don't keep you're head down, [["I'll kill you."]]

Erik thought this gentleman had [[forgotten his manners.]]

So Erik spat in his face, kicked him in the balls and swung an elbow into his temple ( which was at a comfortable height, as the bully was bending over from the previous blow) [[knocking him to the ground.]]

He then pinned the bully's right arm behind his back and dug his knee into the bully's spine. He whispered in the bully's ear, "I do not care to live this life as either a coward or a merciful hero. You tried to fuck me and now I will fuck you. If you don't scream for mercy I will break your neck. If you do scream for mercy, I will break your fingers one by one until I feel that you have learned your lesson. [[You have 3 seconds to act."]]

The bully didn't hesitate "..Please...Please.." he begged. "Crack!" there went his little finger. "Louder", Erik whispered. [[The bully howled in pain.]]

...Erik didn't remember if it was 6 fingers he broke that day or 7. But he did remember the headmaster pulling him off the bully. He remembers talking his way out of expulsion and only getting one month's suspension from school. Which he liked anyways. He hated school. And the extra free time could be put to better use reading biographies of great men and doing push ups until he [[passed out from the intensity.]]

Yes, Erik was quite a man even at age 12. And by 25, some saw him as a God. Jr. boxing champion of Europe, two degrees from Harvard (psychology and engineering) and more achievements than we have time to explore. But Eriks greatness was also the cause of [[his current suffering.]]

You see, Erik was bored of europe. He had grown up in Amsterdam. Lived in England for 5 years, and mapped out in grat detail the landscape of several kingdoms in Eastern Europe. [[Now he yearned for something more|Now he wanted something more.]]

So when a nationwide ad in the paper displayed a wanted notice for a man to help map out a newly settled region of Africa, [[Erik couldn't resist.]]

On the 14th of March, 1794. Eric saw an ad in the paper looking for men of strong charecter to help explore this unknown continent. In that moment a lust for adventure deep inside Erik gripped him so forcefully, he was powerless to resist. He called the admaker, found the nearest dock, and left the next [[morning.| chapter 2]]

[[CHAPTER 2: The Possession]]

You're feeling a little tired, yet excited. You had a long day and now you just want to relax and [[play some video games.|unsure of what is to come.]]

Suddenly the blue light of your computer screen penetrates your eyes with a ferocious intensity and the [[devil himself]] appears before you.

“Offer..?” You ask. You’re curious. You know this offer must contain trouble. And what would your Christian mother say if she knew you were making a deal with evil incarnate. “Evil incarnate?” says the devil in a mock hurt voice. “Must you really be so harsh? And don’t worry about your mother. You won’t be the first person in your family to [[make a deal with me.”]]

“he can read my mind then.” you think. But now you're curious as to what deal your mother made. “You mean my mother made a deal with you?” “Of course! Your father too. 4 of your grandparents and 8 of your greats. Why your family has been making deals with me since before Jesus was born. And they’ve always survived, so it can’t have gone too badly.” You can feel your guilt at the thought of doing business with this man dissolving. If you do say yes, you can always blame it hereditary factors. "He’s good." [[You think. Very persuasive.]]

“You’re lying.” You tell him. You don’t believe it. But you want to put up some sort of fight before you accept his offer. “I’m afraid I cannot lie.” sighed the devil. It is beyond my powers. Haven’t you read the book "Outwitting the devil by napolian hill?" You have. And the book confirmed this truth, the devil is always honest, albeit disceitful. “Fine.” You yield. [[“What is your offer?" ]]

“That’s more like it.” He says with a grin. “My offer is a simple one. You shake my hand and for just 8 hours of your life here on earth you will get to travel through time and space and live 100 days in the life of Erik Van Reiker.” This gets you excited. You’ve always been average in terms of physical build and boldness, but your dream has always been to live life as a hero. And this may be your only opportunity to live that dream. But you're still [[a little doubtful.]]

“If you have to tell the truth then tell me this; what is the worst possible outcome for me accepting this deal?” The devil pauses for a second. He's thinking of how he can be as deceitful as possible while [[still being honest.]]

“Well apart from possible personality changes that occur naturally from an experience like this, such as increased courage, confidence and vitality, the worst thing that could happen is that you die as Erik Van Reiker as soon as you wake up and spend 100 boring days waiting for your soul to return.” "100 boring days?" You ponder. "Is it worth the risk?" I don’t need to think about this. I look up at the devil’s grinning face and... [[shake his hand]] [[decline his offer]]

[[CHAPTER 3: A New World]]

The devil is a little taken back. “A member of your family hasn’t declined my offer in over 14 generations.While I must let you know I'm dissapointed I cannot force you to accept my offer. I will make it one more time and if you refuse it, I shall bid you farewell.” [[shake his hand]] [[I decline]]

The devil nods without saying a word. Then vanished. You’re left in an empty and cold room wondering if you’ve made the right choice.

You wake up with a slight headache but there’s something else. An incredible internal energy pulses through you. It's accompanied by an [[intense clarity of purpose]] you never could have even imagined was real.

You jump out of bed and realize you're in the cabin of a ship. You see a mirror in the room and [[walk over to it.]]

“We can see land, sir” “Good.” You reply. “We’ll reach the dock before midday.” “As soon as we land, send word to Lord Helheim that Van Reiker has arrived. I want to meet him by nightfall.” “Aye, aye.” Says the sailor. He feels the intensity of your eye contact and grows uncomfortable. “Good day sir.” He says and hurries away. Your eyes turn to [[the continent.]]

You walk down the alley and begin to sing loudly, like a lumberjack hiking through the woods on a sunny day. There is a shuffling behind a pile of boxes and 3 men step out. Two of them have knives, [[one a machete.]]

“Good afternoon.” You greet them. A gentleman never forgets his manners. These are no gentlemen however. One holds up the machete, "Give us your money.” He demands staring straight into your eyes. You don’t answer. Instead you respond with piercing eye contact that penetrates the back of his skull. Moments pass. He grows uneasy, “I said give us your money.” His voice is a little shakey, [[he thrusts the machete in your direction.]]

You pause before answering, “I’ve never been a greedy man.” You start, “so I’ll make this fair. Cut off two fingers each for you two with the knives and 4 from you with the machete, and we can pretend like you didn’t just disrespect me.” The three bandits exchange confused glances and slightly nervous laughter. “You’re funny white man.” The leader replies. “But will you laugh when we slit your throat.” He gives a head nod and the other two step forward, slightly ahead of him. They form a triangle in the alleyway and begin to advance. [[attack the man with the machete]] [[attack the man on the left]] [[attack the man on the right]]

You lunge confidently towards the man in the middle. But he’s faster than you expected. He swings the machete at your shoulder. It’s too fast to dodge but you block it with your hand which is severed instantly. You swing a punch and knock the cunt out but the other two men swing at you, one sticks you in the kidney. [[The other misses.]]

You lunge at the man on the left. He jabs with the knife but you parry his wrist and wrap yourself behind him, your hands on his neck. You give it a quick jolt and his body goes limp. The knife falls to the ground and his arm drops to his waist. The man with the machete faces you and the second knifeman moves to your side. [[attack the man with the machete ]] [[attack the man with the knife]]

You turn around and attack the other two, knocking one out with a right hook from your fist and the other with an uppercut from your severed ulnus bone. You stop dead in the streets. [[You realize you fucked up.]]

You vowed as a kid you would kill yourself if you ever became a cripple. It's always given you an edge in battle because you raised the stakes to their limits. But in your arrogance in a new land you forgot yourself. [[Now you intend to honour your vow.]]

You grab the machete and with a clean swing decapitate yourself. Van Helheim will wonder where you are. As the blood leaks out of your neck your consciousness slowly leaves your body. [[Fuck.]]

Your soul returns to the one consciousness and your experience of being a hero ends. 100 days of nothingness until you can return to your body. But even those few hours of being in the body of such a great man were worth it. You now know what your own potential feels can feel like if you only chose to earn it.

You throw the body at the man with the machete and attack the second knifeman. He stabs but misses and you land a right hook to his jaw sending him back. As he falls he manages to grab your arm andjerk you forward. You try to wrestle free but you feel the warm blade of a machete cut through your shoulder muscle. You fall on top of the knifeman and a finishing blow spits your hear open from behind. [[You bleed out on the streets.|Fuck.]]

You throw the corpse at the man with the machete and shuffle to his open side. He swings at you with his weapon but it gets embedded in the shoulder of his dead ally. You swing a left hook and knock the cunt out. The other man drops his knife and raises his hand in surrender. “Please..Please...” he says. [[“8 fingers.” You state bluntly.]] [[Why should I spare you?]]

He leans over to pick the knife but then darts away. You chase after throwing the machete as he reaches the corner. It Digs an inch into his back but then drops out. As you tuen the corner you see him enter another street that will take him to main street. If you pursue him, you might attract too much attention. [[At least you left a nasty wound.]]

The man pauses for a moment, then blurts out, “... women. There are women. We own them. If you spare me, you can do what you like to them.” You are disgusted by what this man tells you. You’ve heard about the sex slave trade here from one of the sailors. You vowed to destroy it. You’ve always hated slavery. Every man and woman has the right and duty to not only be free, but to live with honour. And slave owners abuse this fundamental right. Returning to the moment, you hide your fury and play along. You want some information. [[“How many women?”]]

“6” he says. We had more but we sold them. You nod. “Where?” He seems reluctant to talk. [[“Where.”]] You demand.

“I can take you there.” “Take me there now. Walk 20 meters in front of me. Do not turn corners until I can see you. If you try to run, I will cut off more than just fingers.” He gulps. Then nods. [[You follow him.]]

Finally he stops at a corner. You catch up to him and notice that no one can see you. He points to a the door of a wooden shack guarded by four men. “that’s our den.” He tells me. You nod. [[“Take me inside now.”]] [[Kill him and go inside yourself.]] [[Tell him to follow you back to the docks. ]]

He nods and you go to the door together. He knocks twice and a guard opens a shutter. The guard looks and him, then you, then nods. The door opens and you both [[go inside.]]

"You know, I'm new in town and I don't know anyone here. I used to be a mercenary in Europe. I think you could use a man of my strengths." You tone is friendly, like you've known him forever. He relaxes. "You want to join our den?" he's surprised but excited. "I sure do. As you may have noticed, I love danger." He laughs. "My name is Erik. Erik Van Reiker." You say, extending your hand. "Akimbo Agwandu." He reciprocates. [[You decapitate him.]]

"Walk with me back to the docks. I left something there." He obliges. As you walk him back to the docks, your conversation takes on a causal air. "You know, I'm new in town and I don't know anyone here. I used to be a mercenary in Europe. I think you could use a man of my strengths." You tone is friendly, like you've known him forever. He relaxes. "You want to join our den?" he's surprised but excited. "I do. As you may have noticed, I love danger." He laughs. You enter the alleyway where you first met, noone else is there. "My name is Erik. Erik Van Reiker." You say, extending your hand. "Akimbo Agwandu." He reciprocates. [[You decapitate him. ]]

You enter the room and there’s a man at a desk. “My friend wants to try one of our girls”, says the man you entered with. The man nods and ushers you to a corridor. [[There are 3 rooms on each side.]]

The machete cut through his flesh so fast he didn't have time to scream. His body drops to the ground and his head lands at your feet. He didn't have time to stop smiling. "His name will come in handy." You think. You hide his body under some tattered rugs that had been abandoned in the streets. [[Enter the den]] [[Leave and come back later]]

You walk to the door and knock. A guard opens a shutter. "I'm a friend of Akimbo Agwandu. He told me to come here if I want a good time." The guard looks you, then nods. The door opens and you [[go inside. ]]

The intense clarity of focus you felt on the ship returns. Your body knows that free time is over and it's time to get to work. You head to [[Van Helheim's mansion|chap5]]

The man shrugs, "It's his wages." He ushers you to a corridor. [[There are 3 rooms on each side.]]

With the danger and excitement over, the intense clarity of focus you felt on the ship returns to you. It's time to [[visit Helheim.|chap5]]

When you reach the top of the stairs, two guards are standing outside. You tell them who you are. [[“Come right on in, Mr. Reiker.”]]

She scowls at you. Your lack of control seems to turn her off. I'll take you to Van Helheim she says coldly. [[You feel like you could've had a chance if you waited]]

The maid walks you to a door, "He's in there." She says and walks off. [[Enter the room|Thank her and go see Van Helheim]]

“Van Helheim.” You reply as you walk over and shake Van Helheim's hand. His grip is firm. You sense this is a man you can respect. “This is Baron Mamadu,” a very important man in this town. You make eye contact and shake his hand. Another firm grip. These are strong men you share your company with. Exactly how you like things. With introductions over you see no point in making small talk. [["Tell me about your expedition."]]

There will be 24 men including yourself and Mamadu who will lead the expedition. It will be dangerous. Wild beasts, savage tribesmen, venemous insect and uncertain terrain can all potentially kill you." You nod. [[Sounds good.]]

"...On this expedition you have one objective; to scout out the land and not to return until you have found a valuable resource that we can profit from. Gems, gold, furs, exotic woods. Anything you can find that will make us rich is fair game. That is why you are here, Van Reiker. And if you manage to find these riches, you were be rewarded handsomely.” You nod. You don’t give a shit about gold or money. But adventure? You live for this. [[“And what is there to do in this town until we begin?”]]

This town is home to the most beautiful women in Africa. There are dozens of beautiful women on every street that would gladly sleep with a man of your strength and physical prowess... But I believe you would bore of this easily. A man like you needs a challenge.” You nod. [[He gets you.]]

“This town is also home to the greatest warriors in Africa. “ This gets your attention. You feel a rush of excitement moving through your chest. "They flock here from as far as Kenya and Lesoto. Bantu warriors, Xhosa warriors, Zulu warriors, Massai warriors. All of them and more come to this town for one simple reason. [[The Arena." ]]

"...An underground fight club that is legendary across Africa. Great fighters battle it out in a bloodfest for the ultimate prize, a night with one of the Goddesses. Any man who wins a contest earns the right to sleep with a woman of immense beauty who lives inside the Arena.They have dedicated their lives to the satisfaction of Africa’s greatest warriors. You not only win the glory of defeating another man in combat, you win the body of a Goddess too.” [[“where is this fight club?” ]]

“On the east side of town. You won’t be able to get in yourself but with me it will be no problem.” “Take me there tonight.” Van Helheim roars with laughter,“You want to see what it’s all about, eh?” [[“No. I want to fight.”]]

Van Helheim roars again, "That's the spirit eh. Exactly what I want in one of my men." “You’re a bold man, Van Reiker.” says Mamadu. “ I will make sure there is someone for you to fight tonight.” The thought of battle makes you impatient. [[“When can we leave?”]]

Mamadu looks at Van Helheim. “We have discussed everything we need to here.” Says Van Helheim. “Then we can [[leave now.”|chap6]] Says Mamadu.

[[CHAPTER 6: The Arena]]

You arrive a plain looking building with a linen clothes as a door. A large man sits lazily outside. He nods when he sees Mamadu and the [[two of you enter.]]

You descend a long flight of stairs that leads to an underground tunnel. You follow it for several minutes. [[Finally you reach an opening.]]

“This is the fighters quarters. The fighters can wait here before the fight and prepare for battle or train here on their nights off.” The room is tense. You scan the room eyeing up the competition. You can feel the strength and power emanating from every man you see. But there isn’t a man you don’t want to fight. “I’m ready.” You tell Mamadu. “Who can I fight?” [[“Give me a few minutes.”]]

Mamadu leaves the room. You continue to eye the other warriors trying to access their strength and fighting styles. Two men are sparring in a corner doing a strange series of moves that look like dancing. Mamadu returns, a little uneasy. [[“There are no free fighters tonight.”]]

You wave him off and point to the more athletic of the two men in the corner. “Him.” "Raku?" Mamadu looks at you with open eyes. "I don't want to deter you Reiker, but he is the third best fighter in all of Africa." You look Mamadu in the eyes, [["I want to fight him."]]

You stride towards the man. "Raku." He finishes a intense sparring combo then turns to you. "I want to fight you tonight." He pauses and looks you in the eye for a few moments. He's assessing your mental fortitude. You don't break eye contact. Mamadu is the first to grow uncomfortable. Then his sparring partner. "Alright," he nods. We'll make the last fight of the night." You nod. From that brief interaction you've assessed his charecter. He's a dominant fighter. And an honourable man. He works hard and fights ruthlessly, but fair. Like you. [[Mamadu leaves to arrange the fight.]]

You find a bench to sit down on, and prepare for your fight. You run through hundreds of visualizations of how the fight could go, implementing the moves you saw him perform into your opponents potential actions. You lose yourself in meditation. Mamadu shakes your shoulder. [[“It’s time for your fight.”]]

When you enter the room, thousands of bodies hide in the darkness all facing the one lit area of this underground cavern, the arena. Raku is already waiting for you, dancing around the ring in his strage fighting style. The MC introduces you as an unknown contestant from Europe, a dark horse. You face Raku, and make unbreakable eye contact designed to break him mentally. The fight begins and you [[walk towards him.|fight1]]
