"...to the next Mayor of Mount Pleasant, Greg Vicks!"

The room erupts into applause and cheering. You step up on the stage and are momentarily blinded by the spotlight. As your eyes adjust you look out across the room and see around 100 people. Volunteers, supporters. Friends, family. You take a moment and you nod, thinking back over the long road that brought you to this moment.

"Thank you Mount Pleasant!" The cheering rises again. "Thank you!" You hold your hand up and the cheering subsides. "I couldn't have done it without you. Without your votes, without your donations, without your free time. First of all I want you to give a round of applause to everyone here, for everyone who helped change our town, in whatever way they did it."

The applause rises again, and so does the laughter, as little groups of volunteers remember funny incidents from the campaign trail.

"I wanted to thank two people in particular, though. Adriana has been my assistant for years, and I'm sure each and every one of you here experienced her ruthless organisational skills as she transitioned from assistant to campaign manager. Adriana's assistance was critical in turning this campaign from a long shot to victorious."

The laughter rises again, as people remember Adriana's attempts to whip everyone into line. You look back at Adriana, standing against the wall, and you momentarily daydream about fucking her in your new office at City Hall.

Adriana looks at you, raises an eyebrow, evidently sensing where your mind has gone. Then she smiles, raises her hand and yells out. "I'm sorry!"

Everyone laughs again.

"But I also wanted to thank my wife, the ever patient, ever loving, ever supportive Luna. This has been the longest three months of my life, and I never could have done it without your support."

The clapping starts up again and Luna smiles politely at the crowd. You think that not all that long ago it would have been Luna, not Adriana, that you'd have been fucking over your new desk.

When the clapping dies down you begin your speech properly.

"With the results now in, it's clear that we have won a narrow victory. The margin between Swofford and myself was only 2%, and 49% of Mount Pleasant voted to re-elect the man.

As Mayor I will govern fully understanding how divided our city is, and I will try to govern with our opponents and not against them. But rest assured, I will not dilute my platform. The days of Mount Pleasant being a backwater of the most reactionary, self-righteous, puritanical Christianity are over."

The crowd cheers.

"The days of Swofford and his cronies running City Hall as their own personal fiefdom are over!"

The crowd cheers.

You continue your speech, and eventually stumble home, falling into bed next to an already sleeping Luna...
